Is Lynchburg Traffic Bad?

Traffic can be so annoying! Ugh! So many people want to know how bad the traffic will be in the area they want to move to. Before I got into real estate, I was an Uber driver for a year here in Lynchburg. So, I’ve gotten pretty familiar with Lynchburg’s traffic patterns.

Overall Traffic

Being a smaller city, Lynchburg has some pretty tolerable traffic. Under normal conditions I can usually get across town in about 15-20 minutes. With heavier rush hour traffic that might jump to 30-45 minutes. But let’s look at a few variables besides whether its rush hour or not.

Seasonal Traffic

Lynchburg has five colleges in and around it, and due to this, it experiences some seasonal traffic. During the summer months, most of the college students return home to be with their families. This causes a lot less traffic in the summer months due to less people living and driving in the Lynchburg area, which is really nice.

Liberty University

On the other hand, the area around Liberty University, and especially Ward’s Road and Candler’s Mountain Road, can have some pretty bad traffic congestion. This area can have such a high volume of traffic because on top of Liberty and the community college both being right there, Candler’s Mountain Road also has the mall, and Ward’s Road has a lot of major shopping and dining. This traffic is made even worse whenever Liberty is having an event such as a football game or graduation.

Grave’s Mill Road

Another high traffic spot is the area around where Graves Mill Road and Forest Road intersect.

They have been doing construction on this intersection to help with this, so hopefully, we’ll see some improvements once everything is complete.

They are however, building what looks like to be apartments or possibly some condos, on Graves Mill Road, and many people are waiting to see how this may affect the traffic.

Fresh Market

Over at the intersection by Fresh Market, there can be high amounts of traffic as well. This is a major area for work, and many people will be likely using 501 to get home after work.

So, as you can see traffic in Lynchburg isn’t terrible. Honestly, my biggest advice for Lynchburg traffic is to avoid driving near Liberty when they are having an event. Those are the worst traffic conditions in the area by far. Outside of that, even the higher traffic volumes for the area are pretty tolerable. If you are considering moving to Lynchburg, then I hope this video has been informative and helpful in your decision-making process. Thank you and I’ll see you next week!
